The WWW™ MBBR (moving bed biofilm reactor) is a proven fixed-film or attached growth biological process for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. The technology can be designed to address biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal, as well as nitrification and denitrification treatments. This MBBR biological system has one of the smallest footprints in the industry while tolerating load swings and temporary load depravation.
Freely moving, specifically designed bio-media is introduced to the WWW™ MBBR tank. The media’s large protected surface area provides enough space for the growth of beneficial biofilms. A stainless-steel aeration manifold installed at the bottom of the aerobic reactor provides the dissolved oxygen for BOD removal and nitrification. It also provides the mixing energy to promote the fluidization of the bio-media.
Near the top of the tank, a stainless-steel sieve allows water to exit the reactor while preventing the bio-media from escaping. The bacteria digest organics in the waste stream and convert soluble material into biomass that can be removed downstream. A WWW™ DAF system, placed downstream of the WWW™ MBBR tank is a compact solution for the separation of the biomass and solids from the wastewater.
For the denitrification applications, the same bio-media is employed in an anoxic environment. In place of blower air, we use mechanical mixing to create an anoxic environment that facilitates better media mixing and fluidization.
In industrial applications, we can pair our WWW™ EQ, WWW™ MBBR systems, dissolved air flotation technology and sludge dewatering system as an integrated solution, providing our customers with a turnkey solution for advanced wastewater treatment.
