Optimizing Your DAF System With Air Dissolving Pumps
Achieving high-quality dissolved air with the Nikuni and AirWhip™ pumps.

The heart of any WWW™ DAF system is the pump that dissolves air into the wastewater. This is because DAFs work by adding whitewater to the wastewater to create microbubbles that attach to the suspended solids, causing the contaminants to rise to the surface and be easily skimmed off.

Efficient flotation therefore depends on the quality of the dissolved air, making your choice of pump an important consideration in your WWW™ DAF setup.

The Nikuni Pump

The Nikuni pump is a regenerative turbine pump that achieves over 95% saturation efficiency for 5- to 15-micron bubbles. This system performs three functions in one unit, simultaneously drawing in air and water, mixing the air and then dissolving the air with its turbine impeller. Thanks to its unique design, it is highly efficient at dissolving the air into water, creating highly pressurized and air-enriched whitewater.

Benefits

  • High saturation efficiency and recycle rates.
  • Consistent air flow and air-to-water ratio.

  • Small bubble sizes — 20 microns or less.

  • Better DAF performance and increased capacity.

  • The elimination of costly compressed air systems.

  • A 10-40 percent reduction in chemical requirements.

  • Energy savings and a reduced carbon footprint.

  • A compact size and small installation footprint.

  • An ability to fit new and existing DAF systems.

The AirWhip Pump™

When integrated into DAF systems, our proprietary AirWhip Pump achieves efficient flotation, improving the quality of the dissolved air and allowing maximum adhesion to the floc particles. The system draws treated water out of the DAF’s influent chamber and then dissolves compressed air into the flow to send back to the DAF header box.

Benefits

  • An ability to handle higher flows and loadings.

  • Better DAF performance and increased capacity.

  • Three layout options to fit new or existing DAF systems.

  • Various material options for seawater or abrasive applications.

  • Efficient power usage.
