With our WWW™ IFAS (integrated fixed-film activated sludge) technology, we can upgrade conventional activated sludge systems to meet new effluent ammonia or total nitrogen and phosphorous limits. By incorporating specialized bio-media into portions of the existing aerobic zones, we can cultivate the slower growing AOB/NOB bacteria to aid in ammonia removal.
The WWW™ IFAS technology differs from conventional activated sludge with the addition of media to the aeration zone(s). Like conventional systems, the mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) degrade the nitrate during the pre-denitrification step — Modified Ludzack Ettinger (MLE) configurations — while the MLSS in aerobic reactors facilitates BOD removal and optional partial nitrification. An anaerobic selector can be added to promote the uptake and release of phosphorous through the biological phosphorous removal (bio-P). There are no operational differences between WWW™ IFAS and conventional activated sludge.
Our WWW™ IFAS system is a cost-effective way to upgrade wastewater treatment plants looking to meet new, more stringent nutrient limits
